Alicia Keys and Jay-Z to Light Up the Tony Awards with 'Empire State of Mind

Alicia Keys and Jay-Z are set to bring a special performance of "Empire State of Mind" to the 77th Annual Tony Awards. This eagerly anticipated event will broadcast live from New York City's David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center on June 16, airing from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. ET on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S. The song, a significant part of the musical "Hell's Kitchen" based on Keys' life and music, is highlighted as the musical secures 13 Tony nominations, making it one of this year's top contenders.

"Empire State of Mind," a chart-topping hit from 2009, not only enjoyed five weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 but also garnered three Grammy nominations in 2010, winning two. The song's history of live performances by Keys and Jay-Z includes memorable moments at major venues and events, from Yankee Stadium to Madison Square Garden, and even international stages like the MTV Europe Music Awards in Berlin.

The production of the Tony Awards involves a collaboration with Tony Award Productions and White Cherry Entertainment, with Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss as executive producers and Weiss also directing. Ariana DeBose joins as a producer, underscoring the ceremony's blend of top-tier theatrical achievements and star-studded performances.
