Marco V in death threat trouble.

1st March, 2008

Marco V's first and vital gig in Damascus/Syria was cancelled after the DJ received death threats. He was the first international DJ to perform in Syria. But from the emails and messages his management received, the authorities of Holland & Syria barred his show taking all possible security measures.

Here's what the star DJ wrote to his fans as a token of regret and apology on his website:

"Due to the aggressive and threatening tone of email and messages left for me both online and with my management, the show in which I was to perform as the 1st international DJ to play in Damascus in Syria has been cancelled.

After discussions with the promoter and authorities both in Holland and Syria, it was decided that it was too dangerous for me to go ahead with the gig.

Obviously we get all kinds of comments on the boards, mostly positive, some not so good, but never anything like the death threats we received this week. I am very upset that I won't be able to make it; it would have been a first for me, and a first for Syria. At the end of the day we had to consider what's happened and take what is sensible advice. Hopefully one day the situation in Syria will allow international DJs such as myself to come and play as we do in every other part of the world.

Threats of any kind need to be considered carefully, and taking that into account cancelling was the only option we could take. It was going to be a historic gig for me as well as for Syria, to our knowledge no international DJ has ever played there before.

I'd like to apologize once again for not being able to make this happen, and would like to thank all those involved for their co-operation and understanding.
