Adam Nickey

30th November, 2007

Hi Adam, thanks for contributing your time to this website. Trance Hub welcomes you for this interview. How are you? Are you touring anywhere currently?
Hello mate, I'm Great ;) Thank you!! Actually I'm working really hard at the studio and I hope you will see the effects soon.

How did Trance music happen to you? What held your imaginations and ideas to produce Trance music?
I'm not sure when it happened. It was long time ago. I simply love the electronic sounds.
If I hear some really great preset sound... I can create the melody really fast. Making music is what I really like to do. It relaxes me and that's the most important thing for me. Simply if I have a good day I don't need anything more.

How has the success of "Never Gone" affected your career? What was the inspiration behind this track?
Of course, every new single is one step forward. I received great reactions for this track... It surprised me. The track sounds a bit different from other tracks and this is half of my overall success. It's not easy to make something original today but if you make it ... that's a big part of your success. The inspirations??..I was thinking about life, how time passed but the music is always there... it's never gone. Every new single or remix reminds people that I'm still there.

You have been recently getting a massive support from Above & Beyond. How did you get signed for Anjunabeats label?
That's right, the guys from Above & Beyond kept me in their mind with my first release "Perfect Destiny". One of them said "the doors are open for your new tracks". I sent them "Never Gone" and that's how I signed the track with Anjunabeats. The feedback was great and I was really proud of that.

"Letting Go" is your first vocal Trance track featuring Tiff Lacey, how was it like working with Tiff Lacey?
That's my first vocal track released worldwide. We made the vocal mix in one or two weeks. She is a very talented vocalist and we did not have any big problems. After the vocal was ready I started working on the full track. This vocal gave me so many opportunities so I decided to make several versions by myself like: "Caracas Mix" or "Kai Del Noi Mix". The vocal gives me opportunity to make something hot and that was my aim. Hopefully it isn't my last vocal track.

With other sub-genres of Trance soon shadowing Progressive, can we consider you as one of the saviors of Progressive Trance? This is because we think your tunes are very proggy.
In my opinion changes can be good and we can't stop this process of alteration. Also we can't forget that because of all those changes we have trance music. Definitely on the top at the moment is the mixture of progressive/electro/trance but mainly electro. Regarding my tracks I do what I love to do. Nickey's sound is something between Trance and progressive... rather it's a combination, sometimes more ... sometimes less. One thing will not change in my tracks ...they will be always very melodic.

What kind of music you make under your guise of 'Adam Nickey' and 'Kai Del Noi'? What is the story behind these two names?
'Kai Del Noi' was my first official alias. It was definitely classic trance and had very energetic sounds. For now I'm not producing any more on 'Kai Del Noi'. In the end of 2005 I wanted to do something more. I created "Perfect Destiny" under the Adam Nickey alias. It was my step forward as a producer. "PD" sounded quite different so I decided to release it as a new Adam Nickey track, the main reason. The Nickey sound is based on whole Kai Del Noi experience but you can hear much more progress influences in it.

You are one of the few producers who rely on FruityLoops to create some fantastic Trance sounds. What have you equipped your studio with?
Yes, mostly I'm using FL Studio to create tracks. I think it doesn't matter which program you are using to make music. If you like it ...just use it. If the program is in good hands you could do amazing stuff. So even if you have an amazing studio... it does not mean that you will make amazing tracks. Besides Fl I'm using a lot of VST instruments, softwares and also classic synths - Roland JP 8000 and the second MIDI keyboard. JP makes really massive leads or pads which I love.

How is your radio show 'Trance Experience with Adam Nickey' going on? What is your criterion of song selection? Do you promote other upcoming artists?
Very well. In April, the 'Trance Experience' show will celebrate it's 2 years anniversary and I hope not the last. It is just a one hour show but it gives me a chance to say "hello" to all the listeners. I play stuff which I really like at the moment. Every month I play something exclusive for me ... fresh stuff... upcoming stuff. I have no criterion... if I like it ... I play it. I receive a lot of promos and demos and if I find something interesting I play it. I'm not some kind of a big promoter but if it helps someone ...it's my pleasure.

Are you thinking of compiling an album in the near future?
No I'm not sure. At the moment I'm focusing on my new singles. Because I co-operate with different labels and it can be hard to do it right now. Anyway everything is before me. I will see.

Explain the best of venues you have DJ'd at! Any memorable experience playing amongst crowds? Every DJ has experiences isn't it?
Because I haven't been DJing since too long I don't have much. I remember one moment when I was playing in one of the clubs... I was behind the decks (started playing) and when the first track was almost at the end, the second one didn't play... and there was silence in the club for a small moment. The DJ before me switched the channel off... and I didn't notice it. Now it sounds funny but at that time it was not ;)

You have a pretty comprehensive website, how much importance do Trance artists give to the online media and to Trance music forums?
Thanks! I don't know any better way to get in contact with people. It's easy for them to find their favourite artists. To see the artist's photos in the gallery, read a bit about his life or write an e-mail to him. I make music for pleasure and especially for the people and I don't want to run out of them. I like to stay in touch with them through my website / MySpace.

With such great tracks this year, what does 2008 have in store for Adam Nickey?
My two singles were out in the last two months and it's a bit early to say something about any new stuff. Of course I have something new of what I finished but I'm not sure where and when I will release it. Anyway in the mean time you can expect some of my new remixes which I've made. Definitely it will be the foretaste of what you will hear in the next year ;)

Can you tell us about your musical proficiency? Which is your favorite instrument and why?
If you are asking for any musical background... I don't have any musical education. I'm self-taught. I am always keen on keyboard and it's one of my favourite instruments.

Every artist has a dream, either to be the best in his/her field or to be most famous, what is your dream?
Of course... But I've never thought that some of them will come true. Some of my dreams came true now. I was always a big fan (like other people) of ATB's music, after some years he wrote to me with a question if I could do a remix for him. It was really a great feeling. To be honest I just want to do what I do, like playing, composing etc... as long as it's possible. I'd also like to travel around the world.

We really appreciate and respect your co-ordination to make this interview successful. Thanks for your time and words. Trance Hub wishes you a massive career ahead! Thank You Adam.
Thank you so much. It was a pleasure. Cheers to all Trance Hub members.
